Qolla Merzuq, Volcano shaped hill and legend - (JK)

Between Marsalforn and Victoria (Rabat) is one of the most famous hills in Gozo, Malta. Tas-Salvatur Hill (the Saviours Hill) has a statue of Jesus on its top which is a scaled down version of the more famous one found at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

Interesting things about this Qolla are its shape and the old legends about it.

Ray of enlightningment or Fire?

"In his book Malta Illustrata historian Abela says
that people believed that the hill was a dormant volcano. This idea stemmed from the fact that according to tradition black smoke had once been seen coming out of the hill.
Some still believe in this myth though geologists dismiss the idea as nonsense.

Another legend says that God punished the people of Gozo by engulfing the Island in darkness for three whole days. At the end of these three days a ray of light (merzuq) was seen coming out of the hill and it was hence called Tal-Merzuq." - gozo.gov.mt

The same Geological features (nipples) are found around the world. Formed of different materials in varying landscapes. Maybe the same force created the shapes with slight variations for local material. Erosion is an amazing thing. Creating the same shapes without regard for local rock structure and variations in weather.

Jesus Nipple or Qolla?

Tal-Merzuq Hill is a twisting large Qolla with its top a different size and shape to the rest of the hill that it is formed from.

It's what's inside that counts

The inside of Qolla Merzuq is the yellow sandstone that Qolla Safra is formed of and there is also a light yellow sandstone on the top of Qolla Bajda. You can see the yellow sandstone on the surface of the hill slope and there is also a large yellow sandstone layer at the base of Qolla Merzuq.

The outside is the darker grey colored rock found all over Malta but especially seen as slabs on top of the escarpment / large hills. The top section of the Ray of Light Hill is an angled slab, Il-Qolla s-Safra also has an angled top section.

The folklore surrounding Tal-Merzuq Hill (Ray of Light) give a clue to its creation in an Electric Universe. If landscape is formed through EU events (mountains are shaped in a Lichtenberg Figure) then the Qollas but especially Qolla Merzuq, may have had its creation viewed or at least experienced a Plasma/Electric Discharge Event.

Qolla Merzuq seems to represent the last stage of Qolla formation before they are formed into the larger escarpment hills. The other options are that it may actually be the last stage of these types of Qollas if they do not form into hills.
The process could start with the Tony phase (White Qolla) then go to the Kate phase (Yellow Qolla) and a hill is formed at the JK phase (Merzuq Qolla).

There may be different types of Qollas and Qolla formation in Malta and around the world. Depending on the base materials and their Electric Universe event, different variations of Qollas could form.
